Because there's more than just the muhalabieh and the namouras in life, here is our ranking of the 10 best galettes des rois, tested and approved by the team over the years! The criteria for this ranking are: the galettes must be affordable, digestible, subtle and of course delicious. Ready for the coronation? Let's go!
Edit 2026: this ranking is updated every year, and we have enhanced it again in January 2026, guaranteed without disguised advertising, without conflict of interest (no double blind either, let's not exaggerate) and solely on the basis of our passion for galette.
No. 11: The frangipane galette from Quignon

For an extra-large galette, there's the very satisfying one from Quignon, the trendy bakery in Paris's 9th arrondissement. Tried and tested, and definitely not stingy with portions. A little tip for those with smaller appetites: it's very generous, not too expensive, and could have been a touch more subtle, but it definitely fills you up.
Price: we paid around €30 in a bakery for a galette for about 6-8 people, if I remember correctly.

No. 10: Yann Couvreur's almond galette

Once again, we're in good hands with Yann Couvreur, who has the advantage of generally making quite digestible pastries. By that, I mean: not too heavy and easy to digest, while still being incredibly delicious. And his galette des rois is no exception: a melt-in-your-mouth almond cream, deliciously sweet, hidden beneath a perfectly crisp, if slightly sticky, puff pastry.

Aside from the slightly sticky, caramelized puff pastry, this galette is practically perfect. Simple, effective, inexpensive, and delicious—in short, nothing to complain about.

No. 9: Almond and orange blossom galette from Maison Aleph

We were already fans of their bird nests, And we're just as enthusiastic about their almond and orange blossom galette des rois. With its flaky, caramelized filo pastry, filled with a pure almond cream flavored with orange blossom, you're sure to be a hit with this galette des rois (or vizier's galette), without taking too big a risk with their pistachio or sesame/halva galettes, which we'll leave to the more adventurous and those who love the Arabian Nights! With this almond and orange blossom galette, you'll be a little more original than average, while still enjoying an affordable and delicious product.
Variations: chocolate, pistachio and sesame halva.

No. 8: Angelina's almond galette

Having tried both the almond galette and the chocolate-chestnut galette in 2022, I've never been disappointed by Angelina. They don't take any risks here, offering premium quality at accessible prices.
Variations: chocolate-chestnut (very good, but beware it's fattening!) and pistachio.

No. 7: The Queens & Kings galette from Frichti

As unlikely as it may seem, every year, Frichti releases an absolutely delicious galette des rois, worthy of the very best local bakeries, at an unbeatable price.
€14.99 for a galette serving 6 people, often with promotions up to 50%, delivered to your home, and without frills.
This is probably the best value for money, apart from the one from Picard, which also seems to be a big hit. The galette is simply perfect and perfectly simple. So, thank you to CBAF, the Anonymous Bakers Collective from Frichti, for this incredibly delicious and inexpensive product!
Edit 2025: after some research, Frichti seems to have called on Seeds of Creators, And having tested it again this year, it's once again flawless; the galette is absolutely exquisite.
Edit 2026: the galette is still there, better than ever, so go for it.
Price: €14.99 for 6 people

No. 6: The King Cake from Union Boulangerie

Union Boulangerie was already a hit with their cookies, and their galette des rois lives up to their reputation. A delight to eat, without too much mess on the plate thanks to a perfectly executed puff pastry and, above all, a deliciously melt-in-your-mouth almond paste, generous and not at all cloying, unlike some galettes that become a bit heavy after a few bites. This one seems to be the best compromise at an affordable price, all while trusting a reputable and high-quality brand, far removed from the "new-age" bakeries designed for Instagram.
Price: €30 from memory in the bakery.

No. 5: The galette from Panade

What can be said about this absolutely exquisite galette des rois, except that it is absolutely exquisite? From the very first bite, the tone is set: an airy and crispy puff pastry, worked with the precision of a goldsmith, which crackles delicately under the tooth. This buttery puff pastry, golden to perfection, plays hide-and-seek with a creamy almond frangipane perfectly balanced. This galette, created by chef Merouan Bounekraf, as famous for his culinary talent, combining technique and creativity, as for his rebellious spirit, is clearly one of the best of 2025, and that is why we added it to this ranking by updating this article.
Price: €39.99

No. 4: The Frozen Factory's Galette
We were already huge fans of their Habibi ice cream (it's amazing), their chestnut flavor, their caramelized cashew nuts, their date and orange blossom flavor… and many other flavors listing them would be pointless and tedious (It's Epiphany after all, we can give a little nod to the Three Wise Men).
The Ardèche-based frosty bakers continue to delight our taste buds with an iced galette des rois, a trompe-l'œil creation: toasted almond ice cream, buttery puff pastry coated in milk chocolate, melting caramel, and Dulcey chocolate.
Honestly, it's an absolute success in the mouth, a frosty but not sloppy delight, a true experience that could be awarded the prize for the most original epiphanic creation.

With this ice cream galette, you're guaranteed to make the most frosty choice, without compromising on the quality of the ingredients or the taste. Go for it! And if you missed their galette, be sure to try their ice cream, because it's probably the best ice cream in Paris.
Price: 30€ for 6-8 people

No. 3: The galette from Maison Plume
In the healthy and unique category, Maison Plume is the kind of address you absolutely must bookmark. Located in the very pleasant Marais district, this shop offers healthy pastries that are low in sugar (so basically low GI and low carb or keto for the more discerning), and it's true that the holiday season is particularly heavy on both sugar and fat.
This has given some pastry chefs, like Maison Plume or Oh Oui!, the opportunity to offer healthier alternatives. The problem is that in this game, it's easy to end up offering things that are sometimes a bit bland, or to use excessive amounts of sweeteners.
But on this occasion, Maison Plume completely blew us away., to such an extent that we decided to put their galette des rois directly in 3rd place in the ranking.
What can I say except that not only was the taste there, but the texture was light, melting and subtle… and even when having a second slice, there was no feeling of heaviness, and for good reason, their galette des rois – which they called the Gâteau des rois, because of course, the constraints mean that we are moving away from the traditional puff pastry – is without milk, without sugar, and without gluten.
An incredible feat that deserves praise, especially at Libshop, where we are very committed to healthy, yet delicious food.
So if you want to please your friends, your great-aunt or your colleagues, spoil them with this healthy alternative that will delight not only the palate, but also the stomach, the intestines, and everything else…

No. 2: The galette from Copains
We've tasted galettes des rois since our childhood, from the most low-cost (Pasquier, to name one, with its legendary blue packaging and almond cream capable of putting the most talented plasterer in the construction industry to shame) to the most luxurious, when we had the opportunity, in another life, before inflation, the 29 crisis, and all that.
But believe us, there are few pastry chefs who have managed to reach the level of the organic, gluten-free king cake made with rice and buckwheat flour from Copains. They offer a classic version, and a pistachio version.
A tip: opt for the classic one, with hazelnut frangipane if I'm not mistaken, and simply enjoy this nut paste delicately nestled in a subtle recipe and – this is quite an achievement for a galette des rois – perfectly digestible.

You know our requirement in terms of healthy, simple and tasty food, and on all these levels, without fuss, this galette wins the crown hands down. We tell you no more: just test it! And happy epiphany of course!
Edit 2025: After the classic galette and the pistachio galette, a new one has made its debut this year, it is the chocolate galette, and the result is absolutely incredible, to be tested urgently.

Price: we paid €37 for a galette for 6 people, but it was worth it.
Variations: pistachio, but we prefer the classic (or the chocolate one, discovered recently, a pure marvel)
No. 1: The grand winner is… The Galette from Sain Boulangerie
I can't even begin to describe the pleasure of biting into this galette des rois. It was so good that I've updated the rankings for 2026, placing this galette straight at the top.
This artisanal bakery, true to its "healthy" name, offers a classic, but revolutionary version, entirely organic and without refined or added sugar.
The frangipane is prepared with whole (unblanched) almonds, which gives it a true, intense taste, with an ultra-indulgent texture thanks to the whole almond pieces nestled in the center.
The puff pastry is crisp and light, without being heavy. In my opinion, it's the undisputed star of the year, and I warmly invite you to try it as soon as possible…

Price: Approximately €36 for 6-8 people.
Variations: Classic almond version, and sometimes twists like brioche des rois.
Discover the SAIN Bakery galette (addresses: 23 rue des Gravilliers, 75003 Paris; 13 rue Alibert, 75010 Paris; or via their website/Instagram for orders).
Bonus: we'd love to try it out…
Obviously, this ranking includes galettes that we have already had the opportunity to test in recent years up to today, but many other pastries do an excellent job, and there are bound to be equally good products to discover among them.
Among those we would particularly like to test are:
- Sweet Garden, the excellent pastry shop in northwest Paris, which had already captivated us with its pistachio and orange blossom tart…
Healthy Bakery, the bakery that is creating a buzz with its ancient wheat, which is much healthier than modern wheat (we had already discussed the subject of ancient wheat here). It's been tested, approved, and will be number 1 in the rankings in 2026!- Chez Meunier, who does not rest on these laurels, with a limited edition bean cake signed Chanoir.
- Pastry P1, which made the buzz on the networks.
- The black sesame galette from Utopia Paris.
- Smoked hazelnut frangipane from Tapestry.
- Land and Monkeys, the famous brand of vegan bakeries with a traditional look but futuristic recipes. EDIT: Tested, effective, and approved, but not amazing enough to be included in the ranking.
- The cake of Royal Monceau, for when we have more money (for that, you know what to do, I'm not going to ramble on).
- Ours, not yours, catering.
- picard, Since the massive buzz surrounding their "anti-inflation galettes" at unbeatable prices, and apparently, the reviews are almost unanimous. I'm hearing whispers that you absolutely must try their raspberry galette des reines. Besides, Picard rarely disappoints, except when they try their hand at falafel and hummus, but hey, that's just an occupational hazard. EDIT 2026: their galette des rois with a melting chocolate chip cookie seems to be a wonderfully nostalgic treat, validated by internet users, definitely worth trying.
- And finally the pancakes Oh yes! and Beautiful Desires for their low GI pastries – And we were talking about the glycemic index here. – because you still have to be a little careful about your figure, but beware of excess maltitol and other fake sugars, we will make a topic about it one of these days if you are interested.
I hope you enjoyed this ranking, and if you have any recommendations, feel free to share your favorite spots!
Let's meet up for Candlemas. By the way, leave your comments if you'd like us to do a list of the best crêpes in Paris, because we know a thing or two about them too… much to the detriment of our abs, but don't panic, there will always be the Lebanese Tabbouleh and the White Shark from Libshop to make a little bit of it reappear by mid-June!
